FUNimation Fan Survey Leads to Additonal Rights for “Princess Jellyfish”

Fans Agree with Critics: Romantic-Comedy One
of the Best Anime Series of 2010

Flower Mound, Texas (May 12, 2011)
– Following the end of the exclusive U.S. simulcast of the Fall 2010 noitaminA block series “Princess Jellyfish” (“Kuragehime’) in February, FUNimation Entertainment asked fans on its Facebook page what they thought of the series and whether they would purchase the series should it be offered on DVD or Blu-ray.

The resulting response was an overwhelming “Yes, please!”:

“One of the best animes I've seen in years! I'd preorder as soon as it was announced.”

“If this were available on DVD/Blu-ray, you can bet that we would buy it in heartbeat. Thursday has officially become my favorite day of the week thanks to the stream schedule of Kuragehime, and now I just can't let go of my fondness for Thursdays. Thank you FUNI, I now enjoy the day before the weekend more than the actual weekend.”

“I watched this on Hulu and ABSOLUTELY loved it!! I would definitely buy it on DVD!”

“I totally love this series! It's beyond cute”

Today, FUNimation Entertainment announced that it has also acquired the U.S. home entertainment, broadcast, digital and merchandise rights from Fuji Television and will release the series on DVD and Blu-ray in 2012.

“Princess Jellyfish” is a romantic-comedy based on the award-winning manga by Akiko Higashimura. Animation for the series is done by Brain’s Base (“Spice and Wolf II”, “Baccano!”) and is directed by Takahiro Omori (“Baccano!,” “Hell Girl,” and “Durarara!!”). The story follows Tsukimi and her wallflower friends who are hopeless nerds with bizarre hobbies. Their crippling social anxieties keep them from setting foot outside the all-girl apartment complex they inhabit, but a late night jellyfish rescue mission and the arrival of a “Stylish Girl” turn their lives upside down!
