Saturday Adventures at New York Comic Con 2016

Saturday…As a veteran attendee of this event, I knew it was going to be bad. However, after seeing how Friday went, I questioned how smoothly Saturday would be. Well, some moments went well, others...were an eye opener.

Today, as every convention Saturday tends to be, it’s the day you see the most cosplay. I dressed up as Morgiana from Magi the Labyrinth of Magic. It was a very convenient outfit to wear, but…I still needed a bag and…A JACKET! It was cold! My cosplay doesn’t have sleeves, so I had to keep warm. At least this time when I arrived at the convention area, there wasn’t a line fiasco. I was able to walk into the convention and accomplished my first task.

Scarlet Witch at New York Comic Con 2016

Friday Adventures at New York Comic Con 2016

Oh boy. Where do I begin? The line situation that was a conundrum or what I accomplished that day? Maybe about my strategies around the convention center? Yes, let’s start with my planning and end the day on a happy note.

Before Friday arrived, I planned out what I had to do and what items to bring to get signed. Friday was basically going to be autograph day, while cosplaying as Scarlet Witch from Age of Ultron. Since I would be blazing out the door to beat the crowd on Friday morning, I had to pack my books and lay out cosplay essentials, like makeup, the night before.

Cosplaying as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch from Avengers: Age of Ultron

I don’t remember exactly how I learned about the movie or character, but do remember looking up as many photos as possible including those from a professional agency. Basically, I made the outfit before the movie came out. I picked the character because of the outfit. I like the tough yet feminine look it has plus I figured could finally have a non-anime related character cosplay for New York Comic Con.

Cosplay is NOT Consent Includes Cosplayers Too

I’ve been contemplating for a few days now on whether or not I write about my Cosplay is not Consent experience. Should I write about what happened? Do I want to relive the unfortunate experience? Is it worth being told? Once I asked myself these questions, I realized that my experience should inform cosplayers that they are NOT an exception to the rule.

Ms. Frizz from The Magic School Bus! Ah childhood. Not even sure if the show is on anymore or if there’s a new version of the series.

Saber Extra vs Zulu the Velociraptor at New York Comic Con 2015

It was Sunday, October 11,, 2015 and I arrived on the scene in the morning hunting for the famous raptor. I learned about its existence Thursday night, but I wasn’t prepared until Sunday. I was Saber Extra (aka Saber Nero), the Gift figure version, and I had my weapon of choice for the battle: Aestus Estus: The Original Flame.

Cosplaying as Saber Extra at New York Comic Con 2015

This year, my cosplay was Saber Extra, the Gift figure version, which includes her 6’ sword named Aestus Estus: The Original Flame. My first concern when handling the cosplay was the mode of transportation for the sword. I can go on the train, but the sword? Luckily, I was able to drive myself there all dressed up and ready for the con. Next concern was, will my sword be approved to enter the event.

Kiki from KiKi’s Delivery Service at NYCC 2014

Lately, for some reason, I have been seeing KiKi cosplays. I don’t recall even seeing ONE prior to last year. At some point during one of my travels to conventions, I noticed a handful of KiKis. So when I was at NYCC 2014, I spotted out one and figured there would be more. Lo’ and behold! Enjoy the KiKi cosplays below!

NYCC 2014 Cosplay

My camera was out of focus unfortunately. However, I’m sure fans of the Aliens series will recognize this iconic science fiction terror.

My First Time Cosplaying

Article by Chet Royer

Hello once again, this is Chet a.k.a. Ninja101 and I want to talk about an experience that I had. I was able to attend New York Comic Con (NYCC) 2014, because I didn’t have a problem acquiring tickets. It was because I attended Special Edition NYC which allowed me to purchase the tickets on site. Alas, that is not what I want to discuss with you all. I wanna talk about my first time cosplaying at a convention.
