Cosplay at Animation Comic Game Hong Kong 2010

By pure accident, I come across these videos of cosplay. With the help of my friend, Stephanie, who can read Chinese, and research, I discovered that this is a cosplay competition at 香港動漫電玩節 2010 or ACGHK 2010. The costumes are impressive! I am so amazed by the details of the work, that I wanted to share it with you. Also, here are the links to the photos: 2010動漫Cosplay大賽 and 動漫COSPLAY大賽2010. Now I wish I can go to Hong Kong and just take pictures!

Personal Review: Book Girl and the Scandal Mime

Review by Jong Chung

Book Girl, known as Bungaku Shoujo in Japanese, is a light novel series that merits the read of any light novel fan, and especially so for those who are fans of the mystery genre. Book Girl and the Scandal Mime (effectively volume 1 of the series) written by Mizuki Nomura, details the story of a young boy named Konoha Inoue and his story-munching female upper classman named Tohko Amano. Before the story itself, we learn a bit about our protagonist, Konoha. Through extraordinary circumstances, he was once a world-famous “genius girl writer” by the pen name of Miu. Reading on, it is revealed that this past and responsibility weighed down on him considerably, causing Konoha to suffer a breakdown eventually. After the incident, he returns to a more normal life – no more writing as a “genius girl writer” and back to being a “regular school boy."

The Vicious Circle

Article by Chet Royer

Usually before the conventions, a conference known as ICv2, is held for professionals to discuss the industry of anime, manga and comics. I have always wanted to attend one of these conferences, because I was always concerned with the current health of the industry. I, also, had a new question just for this year: will publishers start making e-books for their publications? It just so happens that this conference is specifically about embracing the digital age.

So here is your chance to learn how to protect your creation! These are panels you cannot miss! Seriously, you cannot miss it. I learned more from the attorneys at their presentations than, well, at school. So here is an idea on how good their presentations are: Intellectual Property 101 NYCC 2009. See you there!

Del Rey Manga is No More!

Yes, it is true. Random House will stop publishing manga licensed from Kodansha Ltd. However, Kodansha USA Publishing will be printing the manga titles in the states. Random House Publisher Services will be providing the sales and distribution services to Kodansha USA in December. My question is, what about others who may have licensing agreements with Kodansha? What will happen to those titles?
