Getting Into the Industry Panels and Events

Hello Everyone!

I compiled a list of activities relating to employment in the industries that will be happening at New York Comic Con and New York Anime Festival. I know there are people out there who wants to join companies like Marvel and DC Comics, but don't know how. Hopefully, the panels I found on the convention website, will provide some guidance or pointers on what employers look for in potential employees.

DC Talent Search
Date: Friday, October 8
Time: 2:15 pm - 3:15 pm

Description: Join DC’s Editorial Art Director, Mark Chiarello, for an informative orientation session that will explain how DC’s Talent Search works and discuss the different needs of the DC Universe, Vertigo, WildStorm and Mad Magazine. If you want to learn what DC Comics looks for in artists and how to improve your chances of becoming a working professional, than this is the panel for you! In order to have your work reviewed, attendance at this orientation session is mandatory. (Please note: Not all attendees are guaranteed a one-on-one review.)

How To Get A Job In Video Games

Description: Many who enjoy video games would like to get involved, but where to start? Come join our expert game industry panel, each one of whom hails from a different disciple (artist, programmer, developer, journalist) and hear how they got to where they are today, what their day to day existences are like, and most importantly, how you too can get involved!

How to Fail In Comic Books
Date: Sunday, October 10
Time: 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm

Description: This panel based on the same named upcoming documentary. Jeff Kaufman, publisher/writer/producer will explain how you can save or lose thousands to millions of dollars producing your own comics. With real world numbers and painful mistakes, this panel should prepare you for your future in comics. Resurrection Studios will be filming the panel.


Get ready with your portfolio of your best work, cause there will be Portfolio Review sessions from companies such as Captain Action, Femme Fatales Comics and Marvel Entertainment, Inc.

Don't forget to look your best and bring your resumes! ReedPOP, the people who run New York Anime Festival and New York Comic Con, will be available to meet potential employees for future employment.
