Happenings: Panels, Signing and Fashion

October 8, 2010

Panels

This panel, Lolita Fashion, was from 3:00pm to 4:00pm in room 1E12. It covered the basic guidelines and understandings of the style. This is good for those who are starting in the fashion or just want to learn about the styles’ general aspect. Because I knew most of the materials being covered, I left the panel early to conduct something else.

What People Were Wearing – Costumes and Lolita

Because of the crowd, it was extremely difficult to spot people and take pictures of them. So here are a few that I was able to take.

I took this picture at the St. Mark’s Comics booth 3116, and I believe that this young lady happens to work for it. :-) I asked her if she was cold, and she said nope!

Yen Press iPad app

It's official! The Yen Press app that was demonstrated at the New York Comic Con 2010 is available for readers to download from iTunes. It provides signal page views and allows one to auto save one's place. Some of the books available are Daniel X, Maximum Ride, Gossip Girl, Nightschool, and World of Quest. The app will include "special bonus features" and "some of the short stories" that was in the YEN PLUS magazine.

The Organization of the Artist Alley

I went to the artist alley to look for a friend and few others. There was a sign in front of the artist alley telling one where the respective artist is located. It was great that it had the layout of the alley, but it would have been better if there was also a list of the artists’ names in alphabetical order. The names were listed on the layout as to where the artist was located; however, one has to realize that the letters identifying the sections in the alley do not necessarily correspond to the letters of the artist’s first and/or last name. For example: the person I was looking for had a “K” for the first name and “O” for the last name, but he was in section J. Eventually, I found the name of the person listed, but it would have made more sense to have an alphabetical name list and a corresponding layout of the alley.

In General NYCC/NYAF + the Crowd

Let’s begin with Thursday, October 7, 2010. It was pretty sunny outside, but I still had to wear a jacket. Nearing the Jacob Javits Center, I looked up and spotted a banner on a lamp post. It was for New York Comic Con, and it had Marvel versus Capcom 3 characters on it. I have seen banners hanging off the building and the promotions on the big screen television outside the building. However, I was surprise to see this, because ever since I have been attending the conventions, I have never seen this form of advertising before. Also, the banners were on several lamp posts behind the big screen. It reminded me of how colleges have banners on poles around or near the campus. This is how one knows that one is getting closer to the college or in this case, the convention.

Postcards: First Time Experience

As mentioned in the title, this is the first time that I was promoting my site in this fashion. The reasons why I wanted to do this now is because I felt ready and wanted to try it out. Since the convention was coming up, it was the perfect timing to test the ground. It was a learning experience.

Gundam Unicorn Episode 2: The Red Comet

By Chet Royer

Gundam Unicorn episode 2: The Red Comet, what else is there to say!? Well, since this is suppose to be a review, I must say something. The second installment in the 6 part OVA (original video animation) known as Mobile Suit Gundam UniCorn, brings fans deeper into the storyline with more action, new characters and story development.

Personal Review: Spice & Wolf vol.2

Review By Jong Chung

The spicy wolf and merchant return in the second volume of Spice & Wolf. While this review may be dated yet, I hope it provides enough information and incentive to those that still have not invested in the series. I gave myself away there, didn't I? Well, no matter – onwards!

Kodansha Comics Launch Event 2010

Hello Readers!

Here is a “partial” transcription of the Kodansha Comics panel that happened at the Kinokunya Bookstore in New York City during the Holiday Anime and Manga Day event. I am not a professional transcriber, however, I have done transcriptions for an Oral History class. Even though the panel was about 30 minutes in length, it took me a while to do the transcription. Unfortunately, I can not hear everything in the audio, so “?” are placed in certain areas with brackets.

Vertical Summer 2011 Catalog

I usually do not read editorial letters, because 1) do not have much of an interest and 2) the ones I read were not entertaining. In the past, I read a few from magazines and probably newspapers. Most are just plain ol' information about the contents in the medium, but nothing noteworthy. I read one that was informative, but that's about it. However, the one in the Vertical Summer 2011 catalog was different.
