Need More Support for Original Cosplay Fashion Show!

This is the first time that Anime Boston was hosting such an event, which I was really excited about! I was like “yeah! I get to see some creativity!” This provided cosplayers the opportunity to portray non-canonical characters, such as series mashups and gender bending, and completely original characters.

The format was fairly simple and direct. The cosplayer(s) were called on to the stage, strike a pose, some acted in character while answering questions presented by the Master of Ceremony (some were funny, while others were just plain dull), and then they walk off the stage back to their seats. Anime Boston 2013 – Lolita Fashion Show!

As always, this is one of the panels that I look forward to every year at Anime Boston. However, this year the panel was hosted by Kiki and Heather. Similar to last year, it began with an introduction to Lolita Fashion, including the multiple styles, types of clothing and accessories that are incorporated in the fashion. The panelists made a distinction that Lolita is not cosplay, because it is a subculture fashion in Japan. Also, a video of Misako Aoki and Midori Fukasawa at the new Baby, the Stars Shine Bright store was presented at the panel. Unfortunately, there was a technical problem playing the entire video, but here’s the video below!

My Adventures at Madoka Magica with Lauren Landa

On Friday, I went to check out the video game room, because it was supposed to be open. However, it was not open yet and a line had already formed. Instead of waiting around for it, I decided to walk down the hallway to see what was happening in Panel Room C. To my surprise, Lauren Landa, who is the voice of Kyoko Sakura, was having a panel. I heard that she was a guest this year and was having a panel, but I did not realize that her panel was happening now at this location.

Honestly speaking, this is the first time that I have seen a Huntress at a convention, period, including New York Comic Con. So, when I spotted this cosplayer in the Artist Alley, and I was hyped, because she looked like Huntress from the comics! I ended up asking her if she was Huntress and she was! :3

1. Have you ever come across a comic storyline that boggled your mind so bad that you just couldn’t figure out how to apply any law or regulations and wish you were able to? If yes, what was it about?

RD: This actually happens with some regularity in Golden and Silver Age comics. Some of the plots are just downright silly in ways that make legal analysis somewhat superfluous. Comic books frequently contain impossible things, and that as such doesn’t pose any particular difficulty for us. But when they contain downright illogical things, the analysis can switch rapidly from “That’s illegal!” to “Okay, that’s just dumb.”
