Majestic Star Dragon Review

Review By Justin Moravian

Stardust Overdrive is the latest booster to come out this year. The set brings forth a few new strategies to the game, but one card in particular brings forth new capabilities to an ever popular synchro monster.

Majestic Star Dragon (MSD) is a level 10 synchro monster which can only be bought out by using Stardust Dragon as well as Majestic Dragon and one non-tuner monster. Bringing out this one monster is going to take a lot of work, but if this monster is summoned to the field, the opponent will be in for a world of hurt.

Majestic Star Dragon‘s first effect allows you to negate the activation of a opponent’s spell, trap or monster card effect by tributing it. Once MSD has been tributed, his next effect destroys all cards that the opponent controls. MSD’s other effect allows you to choose one monster your opponent controls and negate his effect. If the effect of the monster you’ve chose can be activated at any moment, you can use the effect as your own. Last but not least, at the end of your turn, MSD returns to the extra deck and in turn you can special summon a stardust dragon from your graveyard. SO, how does someone go about bringing out this beast? First, Stardust Dragon needs to be on the field. He is fairly easy to bring out since there are no limits as to what you have to use to bring him out just as long as the synchro materials add up to level 8 and one of the monsters is a tuner. How you choose to bring this card out is entirely up to you, just make sure you do your math.

The next card you will need is Majestic Dragon who is a level one dragon/tuner monster. Since he has both 0 attack and defense, he needs to get on the field and synchro as soon as possible because you won’t see him toppling a Blue Eyes White Dragon anytime soon. Once you have the other necessary monsters out to create Majestic Star Dragon , your best bet with him is to either special summon him from the graveyard with cards like Limit Reverse or Graceful Revival, or keep him alive on the field with cards such as Waboku and other stall traps. There are two simple ways to get Majestic Star Dragon into the graveyard and they are to either have him be destroyed in battle or discard him from the deck with a spell card like Foolish Burial.

With both Stardust Dragon and Majestic Dragon on the field the total level equals 9, which means one more level is needed to summon Majestic Star Dragon. There are a good number of level 1 monsters, but one in particular that happens to be the most useful is Tuningware. This card is a level 1 machine that can also be treated as a level 2 monster. When that card is used in a synchro summon, the player gets to draw a card from a deck. This card is really useful when running a deck with multiple synchros and it allows for some decent draw power if used correctly.

Well, that was a look into the Majestic Star Dragon. I suppose it’s only fair that a monster with 3800 attack and 3000 defense would be quite difficult to bring to the field. What other advancements for Stardust Dragon will we see? I guess only time will tell.
