My First Time Cosplaying

Article by Chet Royer

Hello once again, this is Chet a.k.a. Ninja101 and I want to talk about an experience that I had. I was able to attend New York Comic Con (NYCC) 2014, because I didn’t have a problem acquiring tickets. It was because I attended Special Edition NYC which allowed me to purchase the tickets on site. Alas, that is not what I want to discuss with you all. I wanna talk about my first time cosplaying at a convention.

Big Badge, Little Con

Article by Chet Royer

Hello again folks, this is Ninja101. As a nerd/geek/otaku, nothing makes me happier than going to a convention. I have gone to quite a bit of them like Anime Boston, Otakon, New York Comic Con and a few others. After a while, you get a bit more curious about how other venues look and what they offer. So, we chose to check out Connecticon which was based in, you guessed it, Connecticut.

Special Edition NYC 2014

Article by Chet Royer
Hello, it's me, Hitomi~! Sorry, just a little something left over from me watching old school Apple Seed anime. Whelp, I'm Chet a.k.a. Ninja101. I recently had the pleasure of attending the first ever Special Edition: NYC, brought to us by ReedPOP. If you don’t know, the company is responsible for New York Comic Con (NYCC) and many other great conventions. So when they announced that they were holding another convention in New York, I felt obligated to go!

Attack on Titan at Kinokuniya

Article by Chet Royer

A while back, I noticed something happening within the American anime community. From my visits at various conventions, I saw that there was a growing number of fans for the anime and manga titled Attack on Titan also known as Shingeki no Kyoujin in Japan. As time passed, the fan base grew exponentially. So much that I would see some one wearing the uniform from the series on random days in New York City. So when I heard that Kinokuniya Bookstores at Bryant Park was having an Attack on Titan event, I expected the place to collapse due to the amount of fans showing up. What I actually saw shocked me!

Article by Chet Royer

Have you ever had that fun conversation with your friends about what you would do during a zombie apocalypse? How would you survive? Well Tell Tale Games has released a game that will allow you to answer those questions and not speculate anymore. This game is The Walking Dead based on Robert Kirkman's comic book with the very same name. My name is Chet, a.k.a. Ninja101 and this is my review of this episodic adventure game.

NYCC 2011: Convention Evolution

Article by Chet Royer

Hey there everyone, this is Chet, a.k.a. Ninja101. Another comic con has come and gone. There was something special about this convention though. I never saw a con try so hard to evolve. Here are some interesting things I noticed and why I believe that this con was probably the best New York Comic Con to date.

Summer Wars – Makes You Love Your Family

Article by Chet Royer

Being an anime and manga fan for over a decade, I have seen many different kinds of stories being told over and over again. So much to the point that originality is hard to come by. However, the thing I appreciate about anime and manga, in present time, is that authors add or re-imagine concepts that have been done to make it interesting and refreshing once again. This is what Summer Wars has accomplished. This is Chet a.k.a. Ninja101 and here is my review on the movie.

Gantz Movie Review

Article by Chet Royer

“This movie SAWKS!!!,” was proclaimed loudly from the peanut gallery at the end of the film. I found myself nodding indecisively with agreement. I was not sure how I should feel. So, I decided to go home and process the film in my head. Hello every one, this is Chet a.k.a. Ninja101, and this is my review on the live action film Gantz.

Gundam Unicorn Episode 2: The Red Comet

By Chet Royer

Gundam Unicorn episode 2: The Red Comet, what else is there to say!? Well, since this is suppose to be a review, I must say something. The second installment in the 6 part OVA (original video animation) known as Mobile Suit Gundam UniCorn, brings fans deeper into the storyline with more action, new characters and story development.

Gaming at NYCC 2010

Article by Chet Royer

Hey there y'all. It's Chet, a.k.a. Ninja101, here to tell you guys about some gaming at NYCC. Although there wasn't a game room like many other cons that I have been to, there was a heavy gaming atmosphere on the show floor and in the NYCC artist alley. This atmosphere was caused by the exclusive hands on demos that were available. I will discuss a few that I was actually able to play.

The Vicious Circle

Article by Chet Royer

Usually before the conventions, a conference known as ICv2, is held for professionals to discuss the industry of anime, manga and comics. I have always wanted to attend one of these conferences, because I was always concerned with the current health of the industry. I, also, had a new question just for this year: will publishers start making e-books for their publications? It just so happens that this conference is specifically about embracing the digital age.

NYCC and nyaf...

Article by Chet Royer

Hey there everyone, it's me Chet, a.k.a Ninja101. I'm here to tell y'all about the collaboration convention known as New York Comic Con (NYCC) and New York Anime Festival (NYAF). This was supposedly going to merge two fan bases into one giant convention, but what I observed was not what I was expecting.

Nothing Beats the Smell of Gunpla in the Morning

Article by Chet Royer

OH BOY! Now to talk about one of my favorite hobbies! Model Kits! More specifically, Bandai Mobile Suit Gundam model kits. There are tons of model kits out there made by many different brands like Kotobukiya or Wave and even knock off brands like TT Hongli. However, I specifically enjoy Bandai Gundam model kits more. Bandai makes many different model kits for different series, so it is important that I clarify that my interest lie in Gundam. I believe the term Plamo is a kind of slang used for any plastic modeling.

Giant Robots and Old School Anime Hair Cuts

Article by Chet Royer

Hey! Listen! ...sorry... Well Ninja101 here to give you my review on Mobile Suit Gundam UniCorn. I must say that I really enjoyed this OVA(original video animation). After watching the OVA, I said out loud “Gundam has not been this good in a long time.” From watching many new Gundam series that have been set in their own universe, it’s like a breath of fresh air seeing that UniCorn returns to the Universal Century, which is where the original Gundam series took place. Also in returning to this Universe, it seems that the designers of UniCorn decided to give the characters that old school anime look. The protagonist is equipped with what I like to call hero side burns. Girls have that large hair volume that is almost equivalent to an afro. OK enough of my nerding out, on with the review.

My Thoughts on Cencoroll

Article by Chet Royer

Hello there! Here is another review by me, Chet a.k.a. Ninja101! (...I might as well put that in there) At NYAF 2009, a short animated feature known as Cencoroll was shown. This anime was created completely by one person, Atsuya Uki. According to NYAF, Atsuya created this anime all on his own. He did everything. It’s a very impressive anime to behold, but learning that a single person did all of it on their own is even more impressive.

To Bayonetta or Not To Bayonetta

Article by Chet Royer

Monsters, sexy witches, guns and fast paced action. That is what awaits you in Bayonetta. This is Chet again, and this a review on the Bayonetta demo that I played at NYAF 2009. I am aware that Bayonetta has been out for some time now. However, if you are interested in this game and have not purchased it yet, this may be just the push you need to make a decision.

My Thoughts on New York Anime Festival 2009

Article by Chet Royer
Hello there everyone, my name is Chet and I will be writing a few posts every now and then. While I was pondering about up coming conventions this year, I found myself thinking about the last New York Anime Festival in 2009. So while I wait for days to pass by, bringing me closer to the next convention date, I shall give you all some impressions of the New York Anime Festival 2009, NYAF 2009.
