Getting to Know: National CineMedia Fathom and Anime Part 1

Introduction

Yes, anime, the Japanese animation art form that has been in the United States for quite a while. I have been a fan for a long time, but when I heard of the name Fathom, I was like “who is this?” I got curious and decided to learn more about the company and their involvement in anime. So keep reading to find out what this company has to offer us anime fans and the anime industry. National CineMedia (NCM) LLC is a company that operates the largest digital in-theatre network in North America through the three largest theatre operators in the United States, who are AMC Entertainment, Inc., Cinemark USA, Inc. and Regal Entertainment Group. Since its establishment the company has been involved in the activities of music, art, sports and the entertainment world. They have “reinvented how music, arts & entertainment and sports fans see their favorite artists, performers and sporting events.”

This involvement and success is accomplished through the company’s Fathom division, which “accommodates a diverse entertainment product sales opportunity for clients by providing national product exposure throughout the largest and most sophisticated theatre network in the world.” The clients of NCMFathom has access to a nationwide network of theatres through circuits such as United Artist Theatres, Regal Cinemas and AMC Theatres, just to name a few. The events are “multicast through National CineMedia's exclusive, national Digital Content Network and shown in movie theatres across the United States.” The division is conducted by the dedication and experienced event management team that works with the client “to determine the best site selection for your product to sophisticated event execution, taking pressure of your internal resources to help you leverage millions of impressions while reducing advertising costs.”

One member of the company is Dan Diamond, the Vice President of NCM Fathom, who has been part of the company since 2002. His talent and leadership comes from being a “tech-savvy executive,” who has over thirty years of experience in managing broadcast, cable, film and entertainment industry business development and marketing efforts, Diamond oversees the company’s alternative in-theater entertainment programming delivered over National CineMedia’s Digital Broadcast Network (DBN). Since joining Fathom and being a leader of the entertainment division of National CineMedia, he has created and developed strategic partnerships and accomplishing more than one hundred successful events in theaters. Some of the accomplished events include, but not limited to, are concerts such as KISS, the Rolling Stones, Bon Jovi and Garth Brooks; major film anniversary events, sports events, for a third season, The Metropolitan Opera: Live in HD Series in participating movie theaters nationwide and anime.
